She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerome V. Ambs; her sister, Joyce Rowe; and her son, James S. Ambs.
Margaret was born in 1931 in a small farming community in North Carolina. From an early age, she developed a deep love for the land and the outdoors. As a teenager, she helped in her family’s store, played high school basketball, and especially loved riding her horse. She was happiest outside, visiting neighbors and spending time in nature.
In 1955, she married the love of her life, Jerome “Jerry” Ambs. As a young mother of three, Margaret and Jerry relocated to Glen Allen, Virginia, where they raised their family and built a life rooted in love, hard work, and community.
When their children were grown, Margaret and Jerry returned to their farming roots, revitalizing a farm and farmhouse near Montpelier, Virginia. There, Margaret fulfilled her lifelong ambition of farming. A master gardener, she lovingly cultivated both native and domestic plants. In addition to caring for traditional farm animals, she raised sheep to supply wool, which she skillfully spun and wove into handmade items cherished by family and friends.
Margaret was active in the Hanover Homesteaders Club, Clotho's Hand Spinners, and the Richmond Weavers. She found great joy in learning, sharing her skills, and being part of these communities. Above all, she lived happily on the farm she loved, surrounded by the land that had shaped her life.
She is survived by her children, Jessica D. Taylor (Darrell Koerner), of Boulder, Colorado, and Loran Ambs (Joanna), of Williamsburg, Virginia; and by her grandchildren, Emily Paparilla, Christopher Ambs, Stephanie Ambs, Elisabeth Presley, and Jonathan Ambs.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 South Washington Highway, Ashland, Virginia 23005.
