Margaret Jane Fowlkes Lake

LAKE, Margaret Jane Fowlkes, 89, of Richmond, Virginia, formerly of Ashland, Virginia and Bluefield, West Virginia departed peacefully Friday, January 13, 2017.She was the daughter of the late Leslie and Catherine Fowlkes of Bluefield and was preceded in death by her brothers, Leslie, Jr. and Richard.

She is survived by her brother, William and her three children and their spouses, Gee & Donna, Anne & Greg and John & Beth and her seven grandchildren, Trey, Zack, Kenzie, Kristin, Sydney, Phoebe and Andrew.She was a proud graduate of Bluefield/Beaver High School in Bluefield, West Virginia and received her undergraduate degree from Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She attended the Medical College of Virginia where she was trained in dietary services and worked for many years at Richmond Memorial Hospital.She was fully devoted to the wholesome upbringing of her kids initially in Richmond’s Ginter Park and then in Ashland (“the Center of the Universe”) and, subsequently, helped nourish the raising of all her beloved grandkids. She was also an active volunteer at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 21st at Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 South Washington Highway, Ashland, Virginia with visitation at 1 PM and immediately followed by a memorial service there at 2 PM.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 Henry Street, Ashland, Virginia 23005.
