Richard Garland Gallagher Sr., 66, of Ashland, passed away on December 27, 2018. He was the son of the late Edward and Mildred Gallagher and was preceded in death by his brother, Ellwood Gallagher. Richard retired from Tyson Foods with over 38 years of service. He was a member of Forest Grove United Methodist Church. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and family. Mr. Gallagher is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jo Ann Gallagher; children, Richard Gallagher, Jr., Antasia Gallagher, and Nicholas Gallagher; grandchildren, Dustin, Kayleigh, Lucas, Gabriel, and Graham Gallagher; five sisters; five brothers and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home & Crematory - Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Highway, Ashland, VA 23005. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at 11am at Forest Grove United Methodist Church, 13384 Ashland Rd, Ashland, VA 23005. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
