Rose Aimee (McGinn) Karst passed away peacefully at Assiniboia Union Hospital on the 30th of December, 2015 in her 94th year. Her husband John Karst predeceased Aimee in 2004. They farmed together near Scout Lake and Assiniboia for over seven decades. Loving mother of Brian (Sharon) of Calgary, Gerald (Audrene) of Kuwait, Kevin (Gail) of Toronto, and Raymond of Assiniboia; sister to Eleanor (Joe) Bellefleur of Fort Qu’Appelle; proud grandmother of Alison of Chicago and Michael (Ulana) of Etobicoke; and great-grandmother of Eva and Yulia of Etobicoke; and Lily and Linnea Best of Barrie. Aimee was predeceased by her sister Margaret Bigler, and her brothers Gerald and William. She will be fondly remembered by nieces and nephews of both the Karst and McGinn families. Aimee’s early years on the family homestead near Valor prepared her for a lifetime of family commitment and community service. She was career oriented, studying accounting and securing employment with Family Life Assurance Co. in St. Victor. Later, she applied her office management skills as volunteer treasurer of the Assiniboia Curling Club for many years. Her managerial skills were at the heart of a successful family farming operation. Aimee was an avid reader, constantly immersed in the world of ideas. She placed high value on education, in particular for her sons and their children, and was continuously supportive of their careers. She was immensely proud of her Irish heritage, enjoying research and travel to track down her family’s legacy. Aimee and John enjoyed travelling, visiting Cuba, Hawaii and much of North America. They wintered for many years in Yuma, Arizona, and enjoyed their summer cottage at Thompson Lake. Aimee was an accomplished sportswoman, excelling in curling, golf (including a hole-in-one) and shuffleboard. She will be missed by all those who enjoyed her thoughtful conversations as well as her sparkling and intelligent sense of humour. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Westside Court, Assiniboia Home Care Services, Dr. Carulei, and to the wonderfully caring nursing staff at Assiniboia Union Hospital during the final months of her life. The family is particularly grateful to Ed and Margaret Diakow, Bob and Clara Ellert, and Janice Erfle, faithful loving neighbours, friends and relatives to Aimee. Prayer Service was held on Tuesday night, January 5, 2016 at 7:00 pm and Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 2:00 pm, both services held at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia, SK. Interment followed in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorials accepted for the Kidney Foundation of Canada appreciated by the family.
