Blaine Carlyle BeBeau passed away at Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, McLennan, Alberta on March 1, 2026, at age 75. Blaine Carlyle BeBeau was born January 23, 1951 in Ashland, Wisconsin, the youngest son of Louis (Buck) and Marion BeBeau. In 1952 the family left the northern woods of Wisconsin for the open plains of the southern Saskatchewan. They settled in the small community of Willows, where Blaine's parents operated a General Store and Post Office. Blaine began school at the one room school house in Willows, where he attended until 1959, when the school closed and he took the bus into Assiniboia. Willows held a special place in his heart as he was free to roam and explore fields and coulees around the tiny hamlet. In 1961, the family moved from Willows into Assiniboia, living first in a small house on 4th Avenue, and finally to the house on 3rd Avenue behind the Grocery Store that his parents operated. Blaine's passion for the outdoors continued during this time especially with trips to Big River, SK, which included ample time for hunting and fishing.
In High School, Blaine became involved with the box lacrosse and was privileged to represent Saskatchewan at the Canada Games in Halifax, NS in 1969. After graduating from High School, he attended SIAST and completed a course in retail meat cutting. He accepted an offer from the Hudson's Bay Company and relocated to Fort St. James, BC, where he worked in their meat department until HBC closed their food floors. He then worked as a cook at the C & C Restaurant. While working at the restaurant, he met his first wife, Lorraine Mosicki. They married in 1977 in Edmonton, AB and they made their home in Congress, SK, while Blaine operated his own business, Assiniboia Custom Meats. His son, Jeffery, was born in 1979, followed by Shawn in 1981. While back in Saskatchewan, Blaine was able to pursue his true passion of hunting. His hunting log book records numerous successful hunts. In 1982, the family moved to Alberta, first to Warburg and then to Hinton. His daughter, Lorriann, was born in 1983. Living in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains allowed Blaine to explore his love for the outdoors in new and exciting ways, which he shared with his children. The early years in Hinton often found the family exploring the various locations throughout Jasper National Park. A particular highlight was when many of the extended family came and camped together in Jasper one summer. Blaine and Lorraine later divorced.
Blaine met his second wife, Yvonne Dunne, in Hinton, AB and they married in 1992. His stepdaughter Michelle joined the family at this time. Shortly afterward, the family relocated to High Prairie, AB. Blaine continued to work as a retail meat cutter, until he was able to open a meat cutting business. He successfully operated his business until he retired at the age of 70. Through their time on the farm together, Blaine and Yvonne built a wonderful life. Their table was open to all who stopped by. Yvonne's gift of hospitality is renowned. Together, they planted a garden and tended it and reaped the fruits of it. There were always tasks to be done around the place, keeping the lawn mowed and the pipes thawed. But it wasn't all just work. It included trips to the city to visit his children and his grandchildren. Trips with Yvonne included visiting her home Ireland as well as a trip to Australia to visit her brother. Out on the farm, Blaine was able to continue his passion for hunting. In addition to hunting, he also enjoyed fishing and he was able to take up another hobby, trapping.
While Blaine had many passions, his love for his family was the one that overshadowed them all. He never hesitated to give a loving embrace to his children, and every phone call ended with a reminder that he loved them. There was never a question that he would be there for the landmark moments in life, and he attended many special events, every graduation, wedding and ordination of his children. Through the decades he often found himself making the trip down Highway 2 back to Assiniboia, for another family reunion, family celebration, or funeral of loved one. Blaine possessed a special gift of storytelling that he learned at the feet of his own parents. His stories enrich many a conversation with family and friends.
Central to Blaine's life was his Christian faith. It was something that he embodied not only in words but in his actions. He was deeply involved in his local church, serving on the church board, acting as a lay pastor for a time, and traveling to various northern communities as a minister. Blaine trusted in Jesus as his Saviour and knew that his eternal home would be with him in heaven.
Blaine is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Yvonne BeBeau (nee Dunne), his sons, Jeffery BeBeau of Edmonton, Shawn (Kaela) BeBeau of Devon, daughter Lorriann (Nicholas) Neville of High Prairie, stepdaughters Michelle (Stephen) Formstone of Edmonton and Lisa O'Keefe of Saskatoon.
