

Calla Millar, of Assiniboia, SK, formerly of Willow Bunch, SK, passed away December 28, 2012 at age 90.
Calla and her twin sister Clara were born on April 6, 1922, to Bill and Lottie Bennett of Willow Bunch. Calla grew up and attended school in Willow Bunch. After completing High School, she attended Normal School in Moose Jaw. Calla taught school for two years prior to her marriage to Jack Millar. Calla and Jack enjoyed life on their farm. They semi-retired to Assiniboia in 1982. Each spring they happily returned to the farm and remained there until the first snowflakes fell. Although Calla worked hard on the farm, she faithfully supported the United Church. Until her health began to fail, she was an active member of The Order of the Eastern Star. During the winter months she knitted, crocheted, and quilted. She spent many hours doing jigsaws and word puzzles.
Calla was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1989. She was also predeceased by her brother-in-law Scott Millar and parents-in-law Ernest and Bella Millar. Calla was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Lottie Bennett, her siblings Louise (Mike) Skorpack, Alice Bennett, Frances (Ken) Archer, her twin sister Clara (Les) Archer, and brother Tom Bennett. She leaves to mourn her loving daughters, Judith (Roger) Tabin of Wolseley, SK; Eileen (Ken) Aalten of Nakusp, BC; and her sister-in-law and close friend Geny Millar. Calla is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren (this number includes 3 sets of twins): Myles (Zoe) family Bree, Erik and Eden Tabin; Kent (Val) family Morgan, Bailey, Sydney and Jordan Tabin; Lori (Randy) family Hannah and Nadine McKenzie; Kevin (Lindsay) family Calla and Joseph Tabin; Sarah Aalten and fiance Paul Trudel; Kelsey (Ashley) Aalten. A number of nieces and nephews also survive her passing.
Visitation was held Thursday evening, January 3, 2013 in Ross Funeral Chapel. Funeral Service was held Friday, January 4, 2013 at 2:00 PM in St. Paul’s United Church, Assiniboia, SK. The Reverend Marilyn Leuty officiated. Pallbearers were: Myles Tabin, Kelsey Aalten, Reg Millar, Morgan Tabin, Kevin Tabin, and Kent Tabin. Tribute was given by Kevin Skalicky. Interment followed in Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, SK. Donations in Memory of Calla may be made to the St. Paul’s United Church Memorial Fund or South Country Health Care Foundation – Assiniboia Union Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
