Cecile lived in the area of Bengough, SK. and moved to Willow Bunch with her family in 1939, where she started school. In 1945, she attended the convent school in Radville for one year. She came back to Willow Bunch to continue school and stayed at the Sisters of the Cross Convent for three years. Her mother took over the White Dove Cafe in Willow Bunch and she worked for her until she met Lorne Marit whom she married in 1950. They farmed on the Marit Homestead near Fife Lake and raised their four boys. Days and years were filled with farm life including grain and cattle, gardening, travelling with the boys for hockey, playing cards with family and friends, several short trips, and spending time with their family.
Cecile was very active in her community working for the census bureau both federally and provincially as well as taking agricultural census, serving on the Willow Bunch Housing Authority, holding Board positions for the United Church and Hills of Home Committee, volunteering on numerous committees such as the History Book and rink kitchen. She was a member of the Willow Bunch Community Choir for several years.
Cecile loved having a house full of people and many family gatherings for holidays were spent at her house where she took the role of head chef. She showed her love through cooking and was known for her baked bread, brownies and sucre crème! In her later years, Cecile travelled with Dave and Doris to Europe and Africa and shared many fond memories of their times together. Cecile was a wonderful story teller with a flawless memory, often entertaining her family with tales of days gone by, never forgetting names, dates, places and of course every crop that was planted.
Cecile was a very special mother and person to her family and many friends. She cherished many memories of spending time with and babysitting her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
