Edna May Raynor was born on December 2nd, 1916 in Nottingham England, daughter to William and Margaret. She had a sister Irene (Sims) and brother William. She married Alfred Fredrick Wolfe on January 8th, 1944 and immigrated to Canada as a war bride . Upon arrival in Canada they took up residence in Creek District to farm. Edna never had a drivers license but being a farm wife she on occasion had to drive to the fields. Since she did not drive she didn't necessarily know directions real well so sometimes got lost on her way to the fields. One particular incident happened when she was to take lunch out to Alf, her husband, in the field. The family farm is within a couple miles of the United States Border and in the past it was easy to just drive over it. So this time Edna was driving out to the field looking for Alf. She was driving and driving trying to find him. Alf looks out from the tractor to see Edna's tail lights going over the road down to the United States! He then had to take off with the tractor to catch her before she ended up in the states. Edna was a very private person and did not like to share her age. Should anyone ask her about her age she would politely tell them " It is impolite to ask a lady her age, but I am over 21." Edna was always very petite and active up into her later life. It was not uncommon in her early 80's to see her on the floor with her grandchildren doing some gymnastics. Edna like to sing the old war time songs and burst spontaneously into a Vera Lynn or other wartime entertainer's songs if she happen to hear some song on the radio or TV that might remind her of them. She spoke often of working for the AV Row Telephones as a telephone operator before she was married. She was very proud of this and appeared to have enjoyed it because she often reminisced of this time. Another of her favorite remembrances was going to the dances and walking many miles in her best dancing shoes to get there! Her and Alf use to go to all the dances in the community and Assiniboia Legion as they both loved to dance. Edna was raised in a strictly religious English environment and was a very religious person. She was a member of the Church of England until she came to Canada, where she became a part of the Anglican Church congregation. As the Anglican Church disappeared she attended worship at whatever church she could. She kept her first original bible and God answered her prayers to stay in her own home until she passed by providing for the constant attention of her daughter Carol Bakken, and the assistance of many other family members. Predeceased by her parents, William and Margaret Raynor, sister Irene Sims, brother William Raynor, and son-in-law Leonard Bakken, she is survived by children: Shirley (John) Hubert of Lisieux, Carol Bakken of Rockglen, Brian (Donna) of Hanley and Kevin (Shirley) of Regina, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.
