

FLETCHER, Margaret Genevieve, also known as “Genny” by her friends and family, from Assiniboia but formerly of Viceroy, SK. Born to Louis & Caroline Alm, the 9th of 11 children, on April 4th, 1928. She departed this life on November 16, 2012 after a short but painful battle with cancer. Genny was a loving mother & mother-in-law, a fun Grandmother & Great Grandmother, a supportive sister & sister-in-law, a reliable Aunt & an entertaining friend & neighbor.
Genny was born and raised in Viceroy, SK. She was baptized and confirmed in St Olaf Lutheran Church, south of Viceroy. Genny was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She met the love of her life, her partner & soul mate, Robert Fletcher at a community dance. They were married October 15, 1949 and had almost 53 years together. To this union 2 children were born, Garnet and Brenda. Surviving her are a son Garnet and his wife Carmille, grandson Dayton, Scott’s son, granddaughter Pamela & Craig Liptak (Braden & Lauren), granddaughter Karla & Chad Hegglin (Josie); and a daughter Brenda and husband Brad, granddaughter Deanna & Wade Sudom (Keshia, Tessa & Owen), grandson Devin Edgerton (Luke, Cole, Chase & Ty), granddaughter Jenny & Blair Wozniak (Mitchell, Sydney & Nicole) & granddaughter Kerri Edgerton (Tyler, Ryley & Preston). Genny is also survived by her brother Orville Alm, sisters Isabelle Kirby & Lorna (Ernie) Warden, sisters in law Ann Ford and Kay Alm as well as very close friends Loretta & Mel Weanus. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Bob, grandson Scott Fletcher, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, 14 in-laws & numerous nephews.
Mom’s love and appreciation for family was very important to her. She had part-time jobs at Viceroy Post Office and Co-op, also a member of Viceroy Drop Inn Centre, Legion Auxiliary, Ladies Curling Board and 55 Club. Her hobbies included knitting, gardening, flowers, making hangers and collecting spoons. Genny enjoyed watching almost all sporting events but favorites were golf, curling, hockey and ball. She was very social & loved to visit with people; her happy, friendly disposition and gift to gab always left a smile on people’s faces. She had a gift of hospitality which was an open invitation for most of Viceroy.
Funeral service was held at Messiah Lutheran Church, Assiniboia, SK on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Pastor Arden Barden officiated. Donations in Memory of Genny may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Messiah Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
