Dad was born in 1931, May 31, in Cadillac, SK., a year after his sister June Pauline in 1930.Our Dad was a long-time Manager for the Crown Lumber company for 37 years in numerous communities throughout Saskatchewan. In 1985 he chose to semi-retire at the time when the lumber yards were being sold to Beaver Lumber and continued to work with a hammer in one hand and a saw in the other. Lawrence was always helping someone build, fix, troubleshoot or install satellite systems and you could be sure to catch him up on a ladder or up on a roof. His comment would be: “The view is better from up here.” He made sure he was right about that view even up to the age of 84 when he ended up in hospital where there were no ladders. Our parents were married in 1954 in Saskatoon, SK. and were later divorced. We are not just blessed with having one parent reaching into their 80’s, but also our Mom, Esther Fendelet.
Lawrence is predeceased by his parents Anna (1989) and Leonard (1977) Stevens, grandsons Jason (2006) and Patrick (1994). Left to mourn, with heavy hearts, are four daughters all living in Alberta: Shirley Stevens Clark (Darrell) of Rimbey/Grande Cache, Valerie Lee (Norman) of Whitelaw, Cindy Beagle (Tracy) of Innisfail/DraytonValley , and Patty Stevens (Victor Fuller) of Edmonton; his eight grandchildren: Corey (Kim) Clark, Tanya Hanson Clark, Kevin (Taya) Lee, Kristin Lee (Owen Helgesen) Rashelle Beagle (Mike), Jesse Beagle (Megan), Randi Beagle, Ricki Beagle; his great-grands are now 12 with one on the way: Mason (Sam), Meranda (Quinn), Daylon, Dawson, Danica, Shaela, Payton, Brayden, Chloe, Ryan, Charlie, Alex; two great- great grands with one on the way: Deklyn, Lylah; his sister June, and numerous other relatives and friends.
At Lawrence’s request there will not be a funeral. We will have a Celebration of Dad’s Life in the fall of 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance may be made to Grasslands Health Centre (Rocklgen Health Care Auxiliary Memorial Fund, Box 338, Rockglen, SK S0H 3R0), Rockglen, SK.
