It is with much sadness and deep love that we, the family of Lucille Sawin, announce that she went peacefully into the arms of the Lord in the early morning of April 16th, 2022, at the age of 95 years old.
Lucille Ella Mary Sawin (nee Pederson) was born on September 26th, 1926 in the Bengough Hospital. She was the second oldest of five children born to Erwin and Lucy Pederson. Lucille attended Redstone and Ipsley Mound schools as a child and later took a secretarial course in Assiniboia, and worked various jobs – doing secretarial work, house cleaning and at the municipal office in Big Beaver. In her early years, she also accompanied her brother, Verne, with his band playing guitar and singing.
Lucille married the love of her life, Ralph ‘Pat’ Sawin, on January 25th, 1946 and they made their home on the family farm in the Big Beaver area, where they farmed for many years. She would say that her greatest accomplishment in life was being a mother to her four wonderful children – Garry, Kenny, Gailene and Randy. Family was very important to Lucille, and she found great joy in not only her children, but also in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved visiting with them, and keeping up to date on the going-ons in their lives. Her love for her family was also evident in her dedication in caring for her own mother until her passing in 2008 at the age of 108.
Lucille retired to Coronach with Pat in 1986, and resided there for the remainder of her life. She enjoyed gardening, Scrabble games, travelling and spending time with Bud and Vee Brown, Hank and Louise Meyer and Charlie and Marion Gillies; playing smear, doing puzzles and watching curling.
Lucille was predeceased by her parents; husband Pat in 2008; brothers Glen (Evelyn), Verne (Olive), Kenneth and brother-in-law Bud Forre. She leaves to mourn her children: Garry (Linda), Kenny (Susan), Gailene (Howard) and Randy (Lorna); grandchildren: Justin (Shanna), Joey (Charla), Benjamin, Josh (Megan), Sarah (Joel) and Megan (Robert); sister Donna Forre. She was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren: Macey, Jace, Macayla, Gabriella, Jace, Lorilee, Paislee, Mavryk, Brynlee, Easton, Maxwell, Bennett, Quinn and Hudson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A special thank you to all of the staff at the Coronach Health Centre for the wonderful care and attention that they provided to Lucille over the last couple of years while she was in their care. A private family service in celebration of Lucille’s life was held on Friday, May 20, 2022. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.rossfuneralservice.com for the Sawin family.
