Margaret ‘Marie’ Irene Salaba

Marie Salaba, nee Jerome, passed away October 19, 2022 at Ross Payant Centennial Nursing Home, Assiniboia, SK at age 100 years.

Predeceased by her husband, Philip in 2009, sons-in-law Ralph Heagy and Steve Davey, granddaughter Allyson Liebrecht (Heagy), parents Emile and Eleanor Jerome and three of her four siblings.

Marie is survived by her sister Delphine Berard (age 98), son Albert (Thelma) – son Sheldon; daughter Eleanor Heagy – son Mark (Trish); daughter Cecile Davey – children Lenard (Debbie) and Emily (Scott); eight great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Marie married Philip in 1941 and moved to the Salaba Coal Mine to live. Besides being a homemaker, helping with the farming, canning, raising gardens and chickens, she worked at Gordy’s coffee shop, the Killdeer store and for the Community College, sewing. When her vision deteriorated, she sewed ‘bunny hugs’, summered at their trailer at Thomson Lake and enjoyed every opportunity to look after great-grandchildren. When Philip died, she accepted changes in life with dignity and stayed in control until her death at age 100.

Her Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 2:00 pm in Ross Funeral Chapel, Assiniboia, SK. Gary K. Miller and Anette Pryce presided. Tribute by her children. Interment at the Killdeer Cemetery. Donations in Memory of Marie, may be made to the Killdeer Hall Fund.
