

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Olive Pettem, on December 19, 2011 at the Assiniboia Union Hospital, Assiniboia, SK.
Olive, nee Watchorn, was born October 11, 1929 at Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the farm, four miles north of Assiniboia and attended Welcome School. In 1948, the family moved to Salmon Arm, BC, but returned to the Assiniboia farm in 1955. Olive married Delmar Pettem on March 4, 1964. They resided on the Pettem family farm where they raised two daughters, Tracey and Shannon. Olive was a dedicated wife and mother who worked alongside Delmar on their farm. She took great pride in being a home maker, keeping a comfortable home with delicious baking and beautiful knitted and crocheted items. She had many artistic talents and was very generous in sharing her baking, homemade sweaters, afghans and doilies. She was a very gentle soul who treasured family and friends.
Olive was admitted to hospital on November 17, 2011, and diagnosed with cancer shortly after. She was very brave during her illness and displayed her usual desire not to be a bother to anyone. Olive was predeceased by her parents John & Elizabeth Watchorn, a brother Robert and four brothers-in-law Verdun McGirr, Wilf Platzer, Stanley Pettem and Fred Pettem and sister-in-law Helen Pettem. She leaves to mourn her husband Delmar and daughters Tracey (Mel) Fesiuk and Shannon Pettem (Tony Mark); grandchildren: Brian and Michael Fesiuk, Karli, Mackenzie and Kade Hufnagel and Madison Pettem-Mark; brother John (Gibby) Watchorn; sisters Marjorie McGirr, Doreen (Dick) Oakes, Dorothy Platzer and sister-in-law Gwen Pettem.
Funeral Service, according to the Anglican Church of Canada, was held Friday, December 23, 2011 at Messiah Lutheran Church, Assiniboia, SK. The Reverend Dr. Calum Macfarlane officiated, with Raymond Mynett and Lynn Sangster reading the scriptures. Honorary Pallbearers were: Bill Batty, Bruce Stalker, George Marcenko, Maurice Girvin, George Mayes, and Art Drewitz. Pallbearers were: Glenn Batty, Allan Batty, Bill Welk, Doug Gaillard, Sam Costain, and Erick Youngstrom. The organist was Marjorie Hamilton. Interment followed in Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia, SK. Donations in Memory of Olive can be made to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. Arrangements entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, SK.
