

Paul Emile Piche of Assiniboia, SK, former longtime resident of Willow Bunch, SK passed away September 3, 2016. Paul was born October 30, 1918 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, U.S.A. He moved to Willow Bunch at the age of 13 with his parents Paul and Emma Piche. He helped his father on the family farm and lived his full life in Willow Bunch. In 1944 he married his best friend Viola Bruneau. In 1946, after returning between training for the army and working as a coal miner in the Willow Bunch coal mine, he bought his dad's farm just eight miles from Willow Bunch. Together Paul and Viola, at one time, bought and operated a general store in town. He realized his love of farming took priority so together they were involved in raising and milking cows, raising chickens then branched into mixed farming. In 1973 he handed down a portion of the farm to son, Robert. He semi-retired and continued to farm five quarters of land for three years and moved into Willow Bunch, where he built a new house. Having to keep busy, he began doing carpentry work and later branched out into woodworking. He kept busy by doing several different crafts. In 2013 he moved one last time into the Prairie Villa in Assiniboia. He continued to keep busy by doing crafts. Paul is reunited in heaven with his late wife Viola of 47 years, his daughter Therese and his son Claude along with his parents Paul and Emma, parents-in-law Joseph and Mathilda Bruneau and his five siblings: Dollard, Julien, Emilienne, Florence and Gerard. Paul leaves to mourn his two children Robert (Pat) Piche and Marielle (Claude) Dionne, 15 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren and wife Louise. Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, September 10, 2016 in St. Ignace Roman Catholic Church, Willow Bunch. Father Dennis Remot celebrant. Cross bearer was Gerry Beaulac; Altar servers were Michael and Eric Piche; Marielle Dionne lit the Pascal Candle; readers were Adelle Dionne and Michelle Harden; general intercessions were read by Angele Beaulac; Kelly and Tanya Piche and children KIana and Tyler presented the offerings. A piano musical tribute was given by Taryn Harden. Music Ministry was led by the Willow Bunch Church Choir accompanied by Doraine Empson. The Eulogy, written by Marielle and Adelle Dionne, was given by Robert Piche. Robert was also the Urn Bearer. Interment followed in St. Ignace Catholic Cemetery.
