Rebecca Miller (Alexander) was born in a stone house on the farm at Crystal Hill on July 26, 1924, to parents Sylvia (Heslop) and William Alexander. She attended Crystal Hill School from grade one through nine, and finished grade ten through correspondence. When Rebecca completed high school in Avonlea, she was the first student in the Crystal Hill district to graduate secondary school. Following attendance at Normal School in Regina, Rebecca taught school at Bliss Lake, Crystal Hill, Creemore, and Willows.
On August 17, 1950, in Avonlea United Church, Rebecca married her loving soul mate, Frank Robinson. Together they undertook their life vocation of encouraging their children to become the best they could be. They resided on the farm in the Willows district until moving to Assiniboia in May of 1989. After Frank’s passing, Rebecca continued living in her own home until July 2008 when she moved to Prairie Villa. Declining health necessitated her recent move to Assiniboia Union Hospital Integrated Facility.
Rebecca’s pride in family and hard work will always be remembered. Over the years, she continued to be a member of St. Paul’s United Church, teaching and superintending Sunday School and serving in the U.C.W. When the family was in 4-H, she led Peewees and knitting projects. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, baking, gardening, quilting and above all, spending time with her grandchildren. When Rebecca resided at Prairie Villa she enjoyed choir, exercise classes, Bible sharing, church services and outings in the community. She kept up correspondence with old friends and her grandchildren. Scrabble and television games highlighted her keen mind and extensive knowledge. She also kept her family supplied with knitted and crocheted items.
Predeceased by her parents, husband Frank, infant son Francis, infant grandson Lucas, brother David Alexander, sisters Velma Houston and Margaret Sabiston, Rebecca leaves to cherish her memory four children: Sylvia (Larry) Coghlin of Assiniboia and their three children: James, Ben, and Rebecca Ann; Frank (Nancy) of Edmonton and their four children: Katie, Kevin, Martin, and Jenna; John (Janet) of Regina and their three daughters: Diane, Heather, and Anna; Catherine (Ron) Ewart of Assiniboia and their three children: Ryan, Amy (Brendan Paliuk), and Sarah; and one great-grandchild Emily. She is also survived by one sister, Isabella Gallant of Grande Prairie, treasured nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation was Thursday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Ross Funeral Home. Funeral Service was held at St. Paul’s United Church, Assiniboia, SK, on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Lori Klein and Les Wilcock officiated.
