

Rae was born January 6, 1927 on the family farm in the Hay Meadow district to the parents of Ralph & Matilda Pilsner. At the age of five, the family moved to the Canopus area where she attended school until grade 9 and completed her schooling at age 13. Her Mom and Dad bought a farm south, near the U.S. border. She helped her sister Annie with her three children. She then worked at the Red Cross Hospital and around the area.
On October 16, 1951, Rae married George Balon and they made their home on his Dad’s farm south of Scout Lake. In 1959 they sold the farm at Scout Lake and bought Jim Griffin’s place, west of Rockglen. Rae and George were blessed with three children, Marilyn, Eric and Jamie. In 1993, they moved into Rockglen and lived there until their passings.
Rae was predeceased by her parents Ralph & Matilda Pilsner, her husband George of 55 years, (2006), her sons Eric (1961-1964) and Jamie (1965-1993), her brothers Joe, John and Clem, her sisters Annie Scarrow and Susie Mischkolz, her sisters-in-law: Gerty Pilsner, Margaret Balon, Hazel Balon, Mary Jackson and Marg Balon; brothers-in-law Gordon Scarrow, John Balon, Bill Balon, Dan Balon and Pete Balon. Rae is survived by daughter Marilyn Thomas of Rockglen, grandson Colby (Arlynne) Thomas, great-grandsons Reid and Emmett; grandson Lyndon Thomas; granddaughter Daralyn (Cory) Jansen, great-granddaughter Chloe; sisters-in-law Marina Pilsner of Rockglen, Vernice Balon of Medicine Hat, and Lillian Balon of Edmonton; brothers-in-law Tom Jackson of Rockglen and Gerald Mischkolz of Moose Jaw, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayer Vigil was held Thursday, May 23, 2013 and Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, May 24, 2013, both services held at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Rockglen, SK. Father Andrew Pawlowicz celebrant. Grandson, Lyndon, lit the Pascal Candle. Readers were Judy Krall, Sharon Sinclair and Marion Trueman. Tribute was given by Larry & Donna Balon. Music Ministry was led by Kenny Hochlander and Gwen Hochlander, Johnny & Maureen Sabourin. Granddaughter, Daralyn, was Urn Bearer. Interment followed at St. John’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Rockglen, SK.
