
Survived by his wife Angela Schmidt; children: Rina Schmidt, Jessica (Michael) Gelowsky and Rachelle (Rory) Van De Kamp, grandchildren: Colwyn Lichtenwald and Josephine Lichtenwald, Siblings: Dinah (Doug) Almond and Wes Schmidt, parents: William and Isabell Schmidt, mother-in-law: Myrna Moline, brothers-in-law: Graham (Georgina) Hetherington, George (Cheryl) Hetherington and Ernie Hetherington, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Winton was born October 10, 1959 in Rockglen, SK. He attended school in Rockglen and graduated in 1977. He then attended STI in Moose Jaw and completed the Radio and TV Diploma program in 1978. This lead to a live long interest in electronics. Winton started his successful 34-year career at SaskPower in Coronach in 1980 as a Utility Person I, worked his way up to a Charge Engineer and finally worked as a Production Specialist before retiring in 2014. Winton returned to Rockglen in 1978 with wife Angela to work and raise his family on the farm. Winton enjoyed small town living, travelling, and spending time with family; he was always up for an adventure and lived life to the fullest. Winton had a brilliant mind and interest in many things. This inspired him to improve things on the farm to make life a little easier. Winton farmed with his Dad for many years, then in 2000, Winton and Angie began farming organically, and continued till the time of his passing. Winton peacefully took his leave after a brave and hard-fought battle with cancer on the morning of Saturday, November 14, 2015 at age 56. Winton’s life was filled with love, hugs, stories, laughter, and music and his family will always have profound gratitude for having such an amazing person in their lives. Funeral Service celebrating the life of Winton was held Thursday, November 19, 2015 in the Rockglen Community Hall, Rockglen, SK. Reverend Bob Kitchen officiated. Tribute, written by his family, was read by Debbie Miller and Remembrances of her brother was given by Dinah. Honorary Pallbearer was Ryan Henry and Pallbearers were: Mike Gelowsky, Rory Van De Kamp, Cody Hansen, Jesse Hansen, Chris Reaume, and Brent Tucker. Interment followed at Quantock Cemetery, Rockglen, SK.
