

Alfred Roy “Pete” Reed passed away Sunday, August 9th at the age of 72. He was born on April 5th, 1943 in Colorado to Kaye Abbot and Howard Reed. Pete leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Cynthia Anderson Reed, his brother and sister in law, Howard and Linda Reed, his sister in law and brother in law, Sylvia (Anderson) and Bill Emmons, his son and daughter in law, Craig and Angel Reed, his daughter and son in law, Heather (Reed) and Bill Rammel, along with his three grandchildren. While living in Colorado, during grade school, Pete earned “State National Marble Champion”. He later lived in Washington where he worked as a caddy for five years at Cherry Hills Golf Course - here Pete found and fostered his love of golf. Pete graduated high school while living in Yakima, WA in 1961. He moved to California at the age of 18 and attended Santa Barbara City College, playing baseball as a pitcher. He later transferred to Cal Poly earning his degree in Business. Settling into Atascadero, CA, Pete began his business “A.R. ‘Pete’ Reed Tax” that he owned and operated for the last 35 years. He was a very active Board Member with Coast Hills Credit Union, formerly Atascadero Credit Union, for more than 30 years. Through his work and community involvement, he was a member of Kiwanis, Elks, and past President of the Atascadero Rotary. Pete enjoyed the outdoors, fly fishing, regular fishing, RV camping, golf, and his family. He loved his 1965 Mustang, that his son now owns. He loved his dogs. Pete was a gracious man who made everyone feel respected and welcome. Pete was a devoted husband, caring father, and charismatic grandfather who gave everyone reason to smile and feel unique. A private burial was held for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Hospice of San Luis Obispo in Pete’s name.
