

Joyce Delores Thompson, 88, of Atascadero, California, passed away on October 21, 2015 in Templeton, California. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 1PM at Chapel of the Roses, Atascadero, California led by the Pastor of Dove Creek Church of the Nazarene. Graveside services will follow at 2PM at Pine Mountain Cemetery in Atascadero. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Joyce was born in Paragould, Arkansas on September 25, 1927. Her family moved to Shafter, California in the 1940’s where she graduated from high school. Joyce was married to Norris on July 4, 1948, a date they picked so he wouldn’t forget their anniversary! They were married 53 years. Joyce worked as a bookkeeper in Shafter, after which she and Norris opened many Coast to Coast stores. They were also partners with their son in Players Restaurant in Atascadero, which fit her skills as a chef perfectly. She loved God and her family. She also enjoyed cooking, travel club, and gardening. She was actively involved in Dove Creek Church of the Nazarene up until her passing. Joyce is survived by son Steven Thompson, daughter Sharon Clarkson, grandchildren Jeremey Thompson, Colby Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Katelyn Thompson Malo, Austin Jones Thompson, Samuel Clarkson and Jenelle Clarkson Honer, brother Ray Newboles and sister Sandy Phillips. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband Norris, brothers Burl Newboles and Max Newboles, and her parents A.I. and Edna Newboles. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to North County Christian School, Atascadero, California. The family of Joyce Delores Thompson wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of Twin Cities Hospital for their wonderful care of her during her brief time there, as well as the congregation, church groups, and Senior Sunday School at Dove Creek Church of the Nazarene for their love, care, and spiritual guidance of Joyce through the years.
