Michael Vincent Romelfanger of Creston, CA went to greener pastures on the morning of August 20, 2024. Mike was born June 15, 1949, in San Francisco and was raised alongside his brother and sister on acreage in the small town of Woodside, CA. He and his siblings shared their mother’s passion for horses, showing both Western and English in his youth. Upon graduating from Woodside High School, Mike attended college in Texas yet ultimately returned home to the San Francisco Bay Area to join his father in the wholesale floral business that he would eventually take over.
In 1978 a friend of Mike’s recruited him as a coach for a women’s soccer team and on that team would be a left-footed offender that would catch his eye. On August 22, 1980, Mike and Hilde wed in her hometown of Naerbo, Norway. After establishing their life together in the Silicon Valley, they then went on to welcome their daughter (Annika) in 1987 and son (Erik) in 1991. In Mike’s eyes, his greatest accomplishment was the family he created and he beamed with pride. He was committed to his children’s extracurriculars throughout their adolescence; from coaching on the soccer field to cheering from outside the horse jumper ring. There was no greater cheerleader.
In 2010, Mike fulfilled another lifelong dream of owning his own ranch and getting back to his roots. His retirement days were filled with dogs, horses, golf, and “work” on the ranch and his need to be busy kept his mind young. Mike’s legacy will live on through his family and his time spent serving the small community he lived in. He will be remembered for the warmth and support he showed every friend and stranger alike.
Mike is survived by his wife Hilde, daughter Annika (Cory), son Erik (Amory), and grandsons Landon and Rhett. He is preceded in death by his siblings Jerry & Joan, and granddaughter Brooke. The family will be having a private service and a Celebration of life will be held on October 20th in Creston, CA.
