Preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Marguerite, in 2002.Survived by son Rick McGinnis (Karen) of Atascadero, daughter Marie Smith of Durham CA, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Richard served in the CCC as a young man, followed by eleven years in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was very proud of his Navy service, during which he traveled all over the world. In 2011 Richard took an Honor Flight for Veterans trip to Washington DC. After his military service, he worked in a number of jobs, including ranchhand, police officer, and Mendota City employee, followed by 22 years with CalTrans, from which he retired. He lived in Mendota for 61 years, and was a favorite with two generations of neighborhood children. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and was a volunteer at the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area in Butte County.
Family and friends are invited to a funeral service at the LDS church in Atascadero on July 10 at 1 pm. A graveside service will be held on July 11 at 11 am at the Fresno Memorial Gardens cemetery in Fresno. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Roses in Atascadero.
