Bettye was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Dr. James Lloyd Hancock; her parents Roberta and Walter Smith; and nine siblings, Walter Smith, Jesse “Mack” Smith, Neva Omar, Howell Smith, Hugh Smith, Moody Smith, Phillip Smith, Bill Smith, and Ann Perkerson.
She is survived by three children, Alice Hancock, Jim Hancock (Pam), and Janet Hill (Mark); six grandchildren, Bob Hancock (Nancy), Jessica Mschochowski (Adam), Katie Pridgen, Henry Hill, Warner Hill, and Ben Hill; six great grandchildren, James Hancock, Daniel Washington, Laura Katherine Cordova, James Pridgen, Samuel Pridgen, and Olivia Mschochowski; two siblings, Linda Smith and Tony Smith; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jim Hancock, Bob Hancock, Mark Hill, Henry Hill, Warner Hill, Ben Hill, and James Hancock. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Athens or a charity of your choice.
