

We are saddened to announce the passing of Dana Southard, who left this world on January 23, 2025. Born on November 6, 1953 in Natchez, Mississippi, Dana was the beloved daughter of Daniel and Virginia Bowers.
On a beautiful day in 1976, Dana married the love of her life, Nile E Southard. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Brian, Kristi, and Keith. Dana was also blessed with five adored grandchildren, Lara, Ethan, Taylor, Emma and Andrew. Nile and Dana were married for 48 wonderful years.
Dana's early years were spent studying at Whitesburg Elementary and Grissom High school, where she graduated as the valedictorian in 1971. She then went on to pursue higher education at the University of Alabama, earning her Bachelor of Music degree in 1975. She was a member of Delta Gamma sorority, Lambda Chi Alpha Little Sister; Mu Phi Epsilon professional honor music fraternity, Air Force Angel Flight and project officer. She was an honor student and Corolla Beauty.
Throughout her life, Dana found joy in sharing her passion for music as a Piano Teacher. She dedicated many years to this profession before retiring in 2013.
Besides her work, Dana had a variety of hobbies that brought her happiness. She could often be found with her nose in a book, solving puzzles, tending to her farm and cheering at her grandkids sports events. She also loved playing tennis and water skiing.
Dana will be remembered for her kindness, her love for her family, and her beautiful smile. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
