Edwina Smith Chittam, age 87, passed away on April 3rd, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born July 23rd, 1938 at Athens Limestone Hospital to Theo Hester Smith and Annie Isabelle Smith.
Edwina is survived by her husband Norman Chittam; brother Hester Smith Jr. (Kay), three children Leslie Chittam (Mark), Angie Phillips (Olan), Kim Emerson (Marty), her granddaughter Madison Allred (Gregory); her great granddaughter Hazel Mae; and several nieces and nephews.
Edwina was known for her love of the Lord, her passion for life and her love for her family.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 7th, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at McConnell Funeral Home of Athens, Alabama. Chapel service will be at 12:00 pm at McConnell Funeral Home with Jerome Hilliard officiating.
Burial will take place at Roselawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers for Edwina Smith Chittam will be: Mark Ardin, Olan Phillips, Marty Emerson, Gregory Allred, Bryan Smith, and Charles Williams.
