Irene Burgreen

Irene Burgreen, age 100, of Athens, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Limestone Nursing and Rehab. She was born February 18, 1925 in Limestone County to William Thomas Rochelle and Sallie Bell Powers Rochelle.

Mrs. Burgreen is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Frederick “Lester” Burgreen, two sisters, Alice Robison and Gladys Brock. She enjoyed playing bridge and cooking.

Survivors include two sons, Freddie Burgreen and wife Jerre, Dwight Burgreen and wife Sue; one sister, Jewel Dean Kennemer; four grandchildren, Zac Burgreen and wife Carrie, Justin Burgreen and wife Trista, Fred Burgreen and wife Cassie, and Leslie Waldrep and husband Andy; five great grandchildren, Aubrey Burgreen, Owen Burgreen, Bennett Burgreen, Gracie Waldrep and Will Waldrep.

The funeral service will be at McConnell Funeral Home Sunday, July 20, 2025 at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour before the service. Tee Jackson will be officiating. The burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
