Jennifer was born March 15, 1963 in Pensacola, Florida to Norm and Penny Matheson. Growing up in a military family meant moving, which ultimately landed her in California and she spent her childhood years in Lakeside and El Cajon. As a young girl, she loved spending time at the beach and Mission Bay with family and friends. A special place, forever in her heart, was the family log cabin on “The Land” in Cedaredge, Colorado.
Jennifer married the love of her life, Dennis Amborn on October 15, 1992. They created a life filled with love as their families blended together.
As Dennis also was in the military, Jennifer was able to experience living in different parts of the country, such as San Francisco, CA, Brunswick, ME, Bedford, IN, Charleston, SC and finally her forever home in Athens, AL. It was here in Athens that Jennifer blossomed to her fullest. She loved the community, its people; the easy pace of life and of course her home with all of her animals. Jennifer continued to enjoy traveling and taking in adventures. Her favorites were visiting the beaches, finding a good pottery studio, quiet getaways in the mountains and of course great local restaurants. Her life’s passion was helping animals and she loved spending time volunteering at the Athens-Limestone Animal Shelter. A self-proclaimed “crazy cat lady”, she also fostered many animals throughout the years.
Jennifer is survived by her husband, Dennis; son, Brandon Compton (Meredith); daughter Erin Wade; stepchildren, Jason Amborn (Amanda), Sheena Gillespie (Brett) and grandchildren, Hilary Compton, Skyler Christenberry and Josie Christenberry. She is also survived by her siblings, Heidi Kempel (Mike) and Ian Matheson (Jennifer).
Jennifer was also a very special aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and dear brother, Mike.
