

Mary Charles was preceded in death by her parents Dovard E. and Charles Anna (Shelton) Clackler and her husband Robert E. Hollands, Jr. Surviving are her children, Dr. Celeste M. Hollands, Charles E. Hollands (Deidre) and O. Baxter Hollands; grandchildren, Avery, Aaron, Alexis, Aleia and Abram Hollands; Christina and Kaylie Howard; great grandchildren Cayden, Chevie, Copper, Hezekiah, Lula Croi, River and Trenton Hollands; Emorie and Harper Suddath, Shaylin James; Julian Cates and Laila Lassiter.
Mary Charles graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) in June 1958 with a degree in Education. After graduation she worked for the Alabama State Health Department as a bacteriologist in Montgomery, Alabama. The following August she married Robert E. Hollands, Jr., in Wetumpka, Alabama and subsequently moved to Homewood, Alabama where she continued to work for the State until 1962 and Bob worked for Alabama Power Company until 1981.
Mary Charles was a member of the Church of Christ and taught classes while living in Homewood, Alabama. She served the Homewood community by being a Girl Scout leader.
After moving over the state (Greenville, Selma and Dothan), in 1981 they moved to Martinez, Georgia for Bob to work with Georgia Power Company at Plant Vogtle. Mary Charles attended Augusta State University to renew her teacher’s certificate. She taught at Harlem High School for fifteen years and was the assistant tennis coach during that time. She retired in 1998 and was a substitute teacher for the Columbia County Board of Education.
While in Martinez she attended Richmond Hill Road Church of Christ that later became Central Church of Christ.
Visitation will be held at McConnell Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 8,2026 from 12-12:45 pm. A graveside service will be held in her honor at 1pm in Roselawn Cemetery.
