

Phyliss (Margeson) Canfield, age 87, loving mother and adoring wife to husband, George Lee Canfield, passed away at her home in Athens, Alabama on October 28, 2023. Phyliss was born August 22, 1936, in Bath, New York.
Phyliss is survived by her husband, her sons Floyd (Sylvia) Helm and Phil (Penny) Helm, her daughters Fawn (Ronald) Masti and Faith (Carl) Preston, her stepdaughters Rebecca Anne (Gregory) Hill, Stephanie Anne (Jeffery) Marchionda, Gretchen Virginia Canfield, her stepson Shawn Canfield along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Phyliss was predeceased by her parents Floyd (Popeye) and Elizabeth Margeson, her brother Robert Margeson, and her stepdaughter Leigh Anne (Jack) Lockwood.
Phyliss is best known for the years spent at the Chat A Wyle Restaurant in Bath owned by her parents Popeye & Liz and Bath Tire & Wheel that she and her husband, George, owned and operated together. She was very active in Eastern Star, Chapter 529, becoming Matron on three occasions and traveled with her husband to each district’s official visit throughout NY. Phyliss also enjoyed her travels with her husband across country by motorhome, along with over the road trucking. Phyliss loved helping so many as an ombudsman for the sick and elderly. She enjoyed spending time with her family and the many gatherings throughout the years.
There will be a service of remembrance of this incredible woman on November 10, at 2 pm, McConnell Funeral home, Athens, Alabama.
