

Born on September 2, 1935, in Athens, Alabama, Sylvia was the daughter of Flossie and Ewell Ferrell. She graduated from Athens High School in 1953 and married the love of her life, Billy Hogan, later that same year.
Sylvia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She worked as a secretary at Redstone Arsenal, WHIY Radio in Moulton, Alabama, and WHOG Radio in Fernandina Beach, Florida, while raising her family of 4 children. She shared a lifelong love of music with her husband and enjoyed singing, songwriting, and performing throughout the years.
She is survived by her brother, Gene Paul Ferrell (Linda); sister, Joan Nave; children, Connie Hutto (Steve), Mark Hogan (Gina), and Vena Teston; 10 grandchildren, Russ Hutto (Lydia), Billy Hutto (Cassandra), Jonathan Hutto (Tiffany), Stacie Wilson (Brian), Christopher Hogan (Cassandra), Jeffrey “Hoss” Hogan (Stephanie), Greg Hogan, Sarah Tufts (Larry), Amber Hogan, and Zach Hogan; 24 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Flossie and Ewell Ferrell; her husband, Billy Hogan; her brothers, Wilburn Ferrell, Glenn Allen Ferrell (Agnes); her sister, JoAnn; and her son, Jeffrey Hogan.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at McConnell Funeral Home, 1200 East Forrest Street, Athens, Alabama. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., followed by the service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Athens City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Hogan, Greg Hogan, Zach Hogan, Russ Hutto, Billy Hutto, Jonathan Hutto, Liam Hutto, and Brian Wilson.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their love, prayers, and support during this time.
