

A native Athenian, he was the son of the late Dr. A. Paul Keller, Jr. and Saidee Hodgson Keller. Dr. Keller was a graduate of Athens High School, the University of Georgia (Sigma Chi Fraternity) and UT Medical School in Memphis.
While in Memphis, he met and married the love of his life, Marty Hammett. They traveled extensively while he served in the USAF in Germany. Upon returning to the states, he completed his residency in Ophthalmology. He returned to Athens and set up practice at 1010 Prince Avenue for 40 years and served as President of the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology from 1994-1995.
He played tennis at UGA and was co-captain of the 1966 team. An occasional golfer on Fridays, he loved his weekly pickleball games at Athens Country Club. Dr. Keller was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church and Outreach SS Class. He was a long-term member of Athens West Rotary Club and volunteered at Mercy Health Clinic for many years.
Dr. Keller is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marty, two beloved sons, Dr. Alex Keller, IV and Michael Lee Keller, and favorite grandson, Liam; his sister, Susanne Chastain (Woody), brother-in-law, Rev. Charles Hammett (Merelyn), nieces, Kelley Barks (Cole), Melaney Perno (David), Sherelyn Reisenweaver (Scott) and Rebekah Hammitt (Craig) and many cousins.
There will be a private family service on Wednesday, July 9, and following, the family will receive friends from 4:30-7:30 p.m., at Bernstein Funeral Home, 3195 Atlanta Hwy., Athens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy Health Clinic, 700 Oglethorpe Ave., Suite C7, Athens, Georgia 30606 or Athens First United Methodist Church, 327 North Lumpkin Street, Athens, Georgia 30601.
