

Annette Ransom Mitchell was born in Greenville, Georgia on December 12, 1923 to Annie Maffett Garrett and John Wilson Garrett. She died peacefully on February 9, 2025. She was preceded in death by her sister, Beatrice Garrett Mann, brothers, John Garrett, Welborn Garrett and Roswell Garrett, her first husband, Eugene Mayson Ransom, Jr., her second husband, Raymond Brewster Mitchell and her beloved son, Eugene Mayson Ransom, III.
She is survived by her sister, Susie Garrett Tompkins (Kirk), daughter, Lee Ransom Sheridan (Pat), son, John Wilson Ransom (Beth), step-daughters, Judy Mitchell Chandler (Clem) and Raye Mitchell Cousins (Larry). She is also survived by grandchildren, Ginn Maiers (Brad), Brooke LeBourgeois (Cole), Greer Ransom, Garrett Ransom (Lindsey), Watson Ransom, Meg Sheridan Watts (Robert), Thomas Sheridan and her great-grandchildren, James Maiers, Wills LeBourgeois, Lane LeBourgeois, Millie Watts and Henry Ransom.
Annette Mitchell attended business school in Jackson, Mississippi and worked at Georgia Rehabilitation Center in Warm Springs, Georgia during and after World War II. She was present when President Franklin Roosevelt died on April 12, 1945. She and Gene moved to Athens, Georgia in 1963 and she worked for Sears Roebuck for 25 years. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church since 1964, serving on the Altar Guild and Our Daily Bread. She was also a member of Athens Roadrunners and made her first and only international trip to Paris at the age of 73. She had a wide circle of friends encompassing many generations and was known for her engaging personality, quick wit and abiding curiosity.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 22, at 2:00 p.m., at Oconee Hill Cemetery, with Father Samuel Porras officiating. The family will host a reception at Athens Country Club immediately following the service.
