 I just learned of Barbara's passing and am deeply saddened. After my brother's death, her neighbor for many years, I stayed in his home for several months during the probate process. She stood by my side at all times and lifted me when I could no longer bear the grief. Late one night someone rang the door bell. I went to the door and there she stood in her pajamas holding a box of Kleenex. She sat with me until my crying crisis had passed. She came over to help me with the yard sales or just to be there for me. I could count on her for anything at any time. Because of Barbara and her concern, my brother was located and identified .She was such a dear, sweet person. I will miss my dear sweet friend. My sincere condolences to the family, her friends, and neighbors on Castalia. I can not imagine Castalia Avenue without her.

I TRUELY WILL MISS HER SHE WAS A DEAR FRIEND TO ME OVER THE 15 YEARS I HAVE KNOW HER.SHE WAS A RAY OF SUNLIGHT WHEN I TALKED TO HER.WILL MISS HERE. SHE WAS A GREAT CUSTOMER OF BLOUNT HEATING AND COOLING OVER THE YEARS ALSO.

Was sad to learn of Barbara's passing, I worked with Barbara at UGA's School of Social Work years back before she retired. What a wonderful woman and friend.  I miss you already.

All of us at the School of Social Work are truly saddened by the loss of Ms. Eidam. While I and many of the newer faculty and staff never had the privilege of meeting Ms. Eidam, we all continue to benefit from her dedication to the School. Her work was a key part of the School's early years, and she helped build the strong foundation upon which we all now stand. We are grateful to her for all she did for the School, and we hold her family in our thoughts during this sad time.

I met Barbara when I started working for the Child Development Center
Then later started working with Barbara at the School of Social Work!
Barbara was a rock and I learned a lot from her.  I met her mother whom
She loved and cherished.  To work with Barbara was such a Blessing and a
Treat.  I worked next door to Barbara!  They hired me when the program ended!
Life will not be the same without you Angel Barbara here.  I lost contact with you
However you will always be in our Hearts(Howard/Dorothy).  I am trying to contact family members.  Life is Sunshine and Rain, heartache and pain.  May God forever

Ms. Eidam was a large and important part of our childhoods. She was always delighted to see us four children at our father's office. I can still see her smiling face as she encouraged us in life's milestones. I always knew her importance to my father and the school, was so thankful for her devotion to them both. What wonderful memories! I will never forget her kindness.

For 30 years, Barbara Eidam was the glue which held together the developing School of Social Work. She was conscientious, thorough and detail oriented. She started as a secretary but eventually functioned as an administrative assistant, excelling in accounting and office management.
When she started, there were only 38 graduate students, 12 faculty member and two staff members in the master's program. When she retired, there were several hundred students in the undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs, 20 staff and over 40 faculty members. 
She survived three departmental moves across campus! Starting in Waddell, we moved to Candler in 1966. Later, in 1974, we moved further across campus to Tucker Hall, only to find that we had to vacate in the 1980's while asbestos ceilings were replaced.  Barbara managed not only to move the Dean's office several times, but to actually be able to find things afterward.
She always prioritized the needs of the organization. Her integrity was immense and she was extremely perceptive about people in her environment. She knew, instinctively, who was self-serving and who was committed to the important role of preparing professional personnel to serve the most needful people in our society.
The School could not have succeeded nearly as well as it did without her dedicated commitment. It took more than two people to replace her when she retired. 
As a person, Barbara was kind and thoughtful. She kept up with birthdays, anniversaries, retired faculty, former students and anyone whose life had touched hers. She had a phenomenal memory. She loved her dogs, and never forgot the small gifts which people had given them. Her family was most important to her, and she was always there when needed.
She excelled at networking before networking was a term. The contacts and friendships she made across campus almost certainly smoothed the way for the developing school as well as afterward. 
Our university, our state and our nation have benefited from her dedicated life's work.

Barbara was the rock of our street. She looked out for everyone, knew everyone and cared about everyone. When my girls were born, she brought them gifts, and she remembered their birthdays with presents. She packaged up good wishes on all holidays. She was kind and concerned and funny. I enjoyed working with Barbara for over 20 years at the School of Social Work. She was a wonderful person and a good friend.

I have known Barbara for as long as I can remember.Growing up I ate more holiday meals with her and her family than I did with my own.Loved her sweet voice and laughter.While working at UGA,I would often stop by her office just to say hi.
Always thought she was as pretty as any angel in Heaven and now I'm sure she is one.
