Dan was born on April 22, 1951, to Peter and Betty Zuppardo in Lima, Ohio. After Dan graduated from Shawnee High School in 1969, he attended Georgia Southern College in Statesboro, GA on a baseball scholarship for three years before graduating from Bowling Green State University in 1973.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in English Literature and Communications, he started his first job as a Teacher and Assistant Football Coach at Westland High School in Columbus, Ohio. Two years later he attended Ohio University’s Sports Administration Masters program and was an Assistant Baseball Coach for the Bobcats before his affiliation with the Baltimore Orioles/Charlotte Orioles AA baseball team in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In 1976 Dan decided to give up professional baseball and went to work for IBM. That began a career in the technology industry that spanned 40+ years. Dan held various senior level positions from Vice President to President with various technology companies including Oracle, Meridian Leasing Corporation, Collegis, CampusWorks, etc… This career included many relocations from Bucks County, PA, Lake Forrest, IL, Philadelphia, PA, Atlanta, GA, Orlando and Sarasota, FL, before deciding to retire in Athens, GA.
Dan was an avid golfer for many years, but over the last 15 years hunting became his passion and he never missed a deer season. He also enjoyed shooting sporting clays, trap, skeet, and five stand at the rifle clubs. But if he wasn’t on the course, in the woods, or at the rifle club, he was home spoiling ones of his Westies, his true loves.
Dan was a long time Ohio State Buckeyes fan, but when he settled in Athens, GA, he quickly started rooting for the hometown team. It helped that Donna has always been a Bulldawg.
Dan is survived by his wife, Donna; his sons: Scott (Cindy) Zuppardo, Peter Zuppardo, Adam (Kelsey) Zuppardo and his stepson, Ryan (Lesley) Williams; stepdaughters: Allison Williams and Ansley (Jim) Harrington; his five grandchildren: Waylon Zuppardo, Loudon Zuppardo, Lindley Harrington, Cayden Williams, and Kensley Williams; his brother, Tony (Charisse) Zuppardo; and his two 4-legged children: Lucy and Abbie.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Anthony Zuppardo and Betty Jean (Sneary) Zuppardo from Lima, Ohio.
