Denise Gibson Maddox

Always serving the Lord first throughout her life, Denise was born in Detroit, MI, though she spent most of her life in Athens, GA. Denise was a long-time member of St. James United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in their choir for many years.  

Denise was a honor student in high school and a former University of Georgia student.  She was athletic growing up and was a gymnast, cheerleader and especially loved swimming.  Denise was also a skilled seamstress with a talent for writing, drawing and painting.

Denise loved her children, grandchildren and all of her family very much. She had a kind and generous heart, always wanting to help others.  Denise was a lifeguard and she volunteered often for the American Red Cross at many events.

She was the daughter of the late Dennis and Louise Gibson. Survivors include siblings: Pam Felker, Mark, Brent and Greg Gibson; brother-in-law, Frank Felker; children: Sharon Alese Wright; Chip, Michael and John Maddox and Robyn Rubio; children-in-law, Charles, Carly, Rachel, Brandi and Brian; grandchildren: Claire and Charlie Wright, Alessandra and Addison Rubio, and Beau and Bruce Maddox.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 4, at 3:00 p.m., at St. James United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Curington officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 111 West Lake Drive, Athens, GA 30606.
