

Dolores Ruth Burke known as "Dee," to family and friends, was born September 28, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY to Blanche and Albert Herbage. At age 20, she married her first husband and relocated to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Dee and husband where professional photographers and started a business as wedding photographers. They raised three daughters and a son.
She was predeceased by two daughters and her brother.
Dee was an avid seamstress and made clothes for her three daughters. Her handiwork expanded to knitting, crocheting and cross-stitching.
In 1970, then as a single mom, she worked as a graphic artist for nine years. She became a real estate agent for three years. While Dee was in real estate, she acquired rental properties. In 1980, she began working as a clerk for the Gwinnett County Police Department and Corrections Department until she retired in 1996.
Dee eventually sold the rental properties and came to Madison County in 2000. She drew the plans for her custom built home in Danielsville. She came to live in Athens at Lanier Gardens in 2016 at the age of 85.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a choir member and Stephen Minister until retiring to Lanier Gardens. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society where she used her skill of photography for many events, trips and activities.
Dee leaves behind a younger sister, Carolyn Bellman of Venice, FL; son, Larry Miller of Asheville, NC; daughter, Liz Weisenburger of Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Kyle Weisenburger and Christine Waas of Athens; and a great-grandchild, Ayden Weisenburger.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 26, at 1:30 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Melwood Cemetery in Stone Mountain.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
