Born in New Brighton, PA, he was the son of the late Michael L and Matilda Bietsch Cornelius. Mr. Cornelius retired as a Platoon Sergeant in the US Army and was a member of the Campus View Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife Joy Eleanor Thomas Cornelius of Athens, sons David Cornelius and wife Carol of Atlanta and Michael Cornelius and wife Barbara of DeBary, FL; brother Paul Cornelius and wife Chris of Manhattan, KA; sisters Jane Sasaran of Beaver, PA and Dee Huelskamp and husband Ken of Bear, DE, grandchildren J Cornelius, Jeffrey Powers and Charles Powers, great grandchildren Alec Cornelius and Destiny Powers and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2pm Monday, September 24, 2012 at the Campus View Church of Christ with Pastor Steve Watson officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6-8pm Sunday at Bernstein.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations go to the Campus View Church of Christ Mission Outreach, 1360 S. Lumpkin Street, Athens, Georgia 30605.
