She was one of 11 children born to the late Ellis Bales and Lula Dellinger Bales. Mrs. Monroe was a member of the Lions Club and was an avid bowler and member of a bowling league. She loved fishing and her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Monroe was preceded in death by husbands, Ross H. Owen and James Monroe; daughter, Mary Louise Owen Self; and all her siblings.
Survivors include children, William Hamp Owen (Lena), Martha Anne Owen McCarty and Mary Jane Owen Tindall (Jack); seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Friday, May 20, at 11:00 a.m., at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
