Fred graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School, Aeronautical Course in 1947. He entered the Army at the start of the Korean War, serving in the Engineers on the west coast and in the Signal Corps in Korea. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association. After his discharge in 1953, Fred obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University.
Fred’s professional career was as a design engineer for aircraft companies. Fred had a pilot’s license and had a lifelong love for flying, airplanes, and aviation history. After retirement, he served as a volunteer driver for the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society for several years.
Mr. Grauman was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Mildred Weber Grauman. He is survived by his longtime companion, Joan Lightner, of Athens, Georgia and formerly of Morris Township, NJ. He is also survived by a niece, Nancy Riley, and nephews, William Norris and Kenneth Norris.
Interment will be in the Morristown NJ Presbyterian Church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross.
