

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Mac was the son of George Washington Banks and Ella Frances Wilson. He graduated from Sylvan High School in 1960 and went on to attend Georgia Tech. Though he didn’t complete his degree, he built a long and dedicated career as a repairman and clerk at Western Electric/AT&T, retiring after 30 years of service.
Mac was a man of many interests and talents. He found joy in hunting, fishing, traveling, photography, genealogy, and collecting vintage items. He was deeply patriotic and, though not a veteran himself, proudly supported numerous veterans’ organizations, including Tunnel to Towers.
Above all, Mac was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his daughters, Linda Banks Fogg (Jeff) of Hartwell, GA, and Adrian Banks Crabtree (Scott) of Athens, GA. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Scott Anderson of Commerce, GA; Kevin Anderson of Greensboro, NC; Eric Fogg of Commerce, GA; Rachel Bullock (Aubrey) of Colbert, GA; Leah Stratacos of Atlanta, GA; Thomas Buckler (Christine) and their children William and Charlotte of Sandy Springs, GA; Sarah Hagan and her son Killian of Palm Coast, FL; and Benjamin Crabtree (Faith) of Saint Augustine, FL, along with their son Archer and another child on the way. He is also survived by his sister Sandra Banks Jones of Ringgold, GA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents, George Washington Banks and Ella Frances Wilson Banks, and his brothers, Robert Wayne Banks, Sr. and David Russell Banks.
A visitation and celebration of Mac's life will be held on November 8, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Bernstein Funeral Home, 3195 Atlanta Highway, Athens, GA 30606. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no burial, and his ashes will be spread at a later date by his family.
Mac (Daddy) will be remembered for his warmth, curiosity, and unwavering love for his family and country.
