

Born September 28, 1921 in Jackson County, Mr. Hale was a son of the late George Glenn Hale and Ruby Woodall Hale. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the North Atlantic aboard the USS Bogue. Mr. Hale was employed by Georgia Natural Gas Company for over 40 years and was a longtime volunteer and ambassador for Athens Little League Baseball. The VFW Baseball Field on Sunset Drive was named "George Ferrell Hale Field." He was an avid walker, loved to hike the Appalachian Trail and was a longtime member of Young Harris Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Eidam Hale; sister, Frances Foster and brother, Travis Hale.
Survivors include sons, Ron Hale (Louise) of Columbus and Mike Hale (Phyllis) of Bogart; sisters, Charlotte Arnold of Nicholson, Betty Archer of Stone Mountain, Louise Duke of Jefferson, Linda Hall (Marvin) of Bainbridge and Maxine Hart of Snellville; sister-in-law, Barbara Eidam of Athens; grandchildren, Chris Hale of Watkinsville, Greg Hale (Cindy) of Athens, Ellen Hale of Columbus and Ben Hale of Columbus; six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Bernstein Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 7 at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Park with Rev. Doug Nix officiating.
