He was the son of deceased parents George Allen Townsend and Madeline Roche Townsend of Athens, brother to deceased siblings Marie Townsend Conner (John S.), Retired Col. William R. Townsend (Sue) and Eugene A. Townsend.
Surviving him is his son, Glenn Allen Townsend (Debra) of Athens; grandchildren, Maygan L. Townsend of Athens and Travis M. Townsend of Greenville, S.C.; nieces, Madelyn Conner Krieger of Bogart and Cheryl Blakey Goodman (Neil) of McDonough, GA; nephews, Todd C. Townsend (Milicent) of Hartwell and Mark S. Townsend of Watkinsville; and several other nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held graveside at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens, on Saturday, March 11, at 1:30 p.m.
