I was born in Kannapolis, N.C. I was the proud husband of Sharon Godfrey, father of Michael Godfrey and the grandfather of Marlo Godfrey. They brought meaning to my life.
After graduating from M.C.H.S. in 1960, I joined the U.S. Navy and served almost 15 years of active service. During the Vietnam War, I served aboard the U.S.S. Waddell (DDG-24) patrolling the Tonkin Gulf of N. Vietnam. I served aboard a total of 6 Naval vessels as a shipboard electrician. My highest rank was 1st Class Petty Officer (E-6) with recommendation to Chief Petty Officer (E-7). Being away from home most of the year, I chose family over career. I have no regrets.
I am also survived by 2 brothers, Billy Godfrey of Colbert, GA and Gary Godfrey of Arnoldsville, GA; several aunts, 1 uncle and many cousins.
