Jacqueline Scott Hoffmeier was born November 6, 1933, to Jesse Ruel Scott and Lila Dawn Cowan Scott. Her birthplace was in Henry County, GA. Her parents; sister, Francis; and her loving husband, Paul Hoffmeier, preceded her in death.
During World War II the family lived in Baltimore, MD, and Jackie’s father was employed by General Motors. Her sister, Francis, served in the Waves. Jackie attended elementary school during those years and graduated from high school in McDonough, GA. After the war Jackie’s father was transferred back to Atlanta and built a new home on land he had purchased in McDonough.
After her marriage in 1953 to Allan Coggin, she became a loving mother to her daughters, Donna and Cindy. At the early age of 23, she experienced the first stages of Multiple Sclerosis, but she bravely continued her activities and through her young daughters she became interested in Girl Scouts and spent many years as a leader to both Donna and Cindy.
Jackie’s favorite expression “Praise the Lord,” proclaimed her faith and personality and brought many new friends into her life. The best friend, Paul Hoffmeier became her second husband, on April 25, 1992. They moved to Tellico Village in Loudon, TN, and a new life of retirement in July 1999. Here they enjoyed their many friends in the Wine Tasting club, Vintage Automobile club, Paul’s golf group and Jackie’s Bible Study groups.
Jackie found that Stephen Ministry at the Community Church in Tellico Village was a way to share her strong faith and her concern for others. She and Paul enjoyed entertaining in their beautiful home as well as making new and lasting friends. Although M.S. has no cure at this time, Jackie did everything possible to keep herself mobile and able to enjoy life. She exercised faithfully and was able to enjoy day trips with “Red Hat” friends and many family events, including the very happy wedding of her only grandchild, Brad.
She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her sister, Nancy Bryant and her husband, Joel; her brother, Jerry Scott and his wife, Joy; Jackie’s daughters, Donna Buffington and husband, Charlie, of Atlanta, GA, Cindy Rochow and husband, Don, of Athens, GA, and grandson, Brad Buffington, and his wife, Mandy, and her great-granddaughter, Blakely of Alpharetta, GA.
She is also survived by her stepson, Eric Hoffmeier and his wife, Tina; and stepdaughters, Martha Elrod, Krista Hillman and husband, Dave, and Darcy Westermeyer and husband, John. She is also survived by step-grandchildren, Ruthie, Lindsey, Hannah, Mark, Abby and Jimmy. Many nieces and nephews are counted among the Loved Ones who will remember and “Praise the Lord” for the life of Jackie Hoffmeier.
The funeral will be held at Kelley Presbyterian Church, 3637 Airline Rd., Kelleytown/McDonough, GA on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at 12:00 p.m.
