Jimmy was born in Athens to the late Joseph and Eliane Edens. He was preceded in death by his beautiful niece, Jennifer Lazo. He is survived by his brother, Joe (Nancy); his sister, Madge (Terry); his nephew, Joseph (Katelyn) Edens and their children: Tripp, Leyton and Max; his nephew, Mario Lazo and his children: Eden and Monica.
In 1959, at the time of Jimmy’s birth, Joe and Eliane were told that children with Down’s Syndrome would have a short life, be non-productive, and a burden to the family, so therefore, Jimmy should be placed in an institution.
Joe and Eliane chose to believe the opposite and made it their mission to provide Jimmy an exceptional life. Eliane read, researched and consulted professionals to understand how best to meet his needs.
Fortunately before Jimmy’s birth, a group of local parents and individuals started a “school” in Athens called Hope Haven. At the age of 5, Jimmy enrolled. It provided him a place to learn and socialize in a nurturing environment. He flourished, and at the time of his death, he was still being served by Hope Haven.
Jimmy was small in stature, but large in personality. He made sure that he was always recognized and heard. He was appropriately earned “The King” as a nickname.
Jimmy was sweet, joy and LOVE. He loved his family, his birthday, Christmas parties, (Jimmy Jam) dancing, singing, hugs, kisses, helping, the barbershop, vacations, all people and animals. Jimmy was unforgettable and will be greatly missed by all who loved and met him.
