

Born in Ninety Six and raised in Greenwood, SC, Mr. Britt, Edward, as he was known, was the son of the late James Boggs Britt and Martha Louisa McCracken Britt. Mr. Britt received a Civil Engineering degree from Clemson College in 1961 and proudly served in the United States Army. In college, he was a member of The Clemson University Tiger Band marching with a sousaphone, playing tuba in concert and playing upright bass with the dance band, “The Blue Notes.” He later enjoyed marching with the Clemson Alumni Band at homecoming football games and the jam sessions with Jungaleers Alumni Group. Professionally, Mr. Britt was a founding partner, in 1968, of a consulting engineering firm, which is now Britt Peters and Associates. He served on the South Carolina State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors, was a longtime member of Rotary International, volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, an avid supporter of IPTAY and the Clemson Alumni Association, and a member of Athens First United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Britt was predeceased by sisters: Sara Kate Blaes, Martha Burns, Catherine Schumpert, and Rose Hines; and brothers: James W. Britt and Joseph A. Britt.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Claire Turk Britt of Athens; son and daughter-in-law, John and Kerry Britt of Fortson, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Gene Deal of Athens; two grandsons: Cole and Kelly Britt.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 22 at 3:00 p.m., at the Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 23, at 11:00 a.m., at Buffalo Baptist Church Cemetery in McCormick, SC.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 22, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Bernstein Funeral Home.
