Lee Pierson

Baxter Lee Pierson, 82, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015. He was the son of the late Milton and Louise Pierson and the husband, for 62 years, of the late Mary Jean McMichael Pierson. He was a native of Decatur, GA and moved to Athens in 1955. He joined the firm of Hutchins, Cox and Stroud in 1965. In 1968 the firm became Hutchins, Cox, Stroud and Pierson.

Mr. Pierson was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church. He served in many volunteer capacities in the church and community over the years. He enjoyed his family, his business career, playing golf, and the fellowship of wonderful, long-time friends.

He is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Donna Smartt (Sam) of Lookout, Mtn., TN, Mrs. Lynn Pierson (Rex Kizzort), of Roswell, GA, three grandchildren, Mary Smartt Caines (David) of Lookout Mtn., GA, Susan Smartt Cook (Josh) of Edmond, OK, Sam Smartt, III (Amanda) of Grand Rapids, MI, and six great-grandchildren, Miles, Eleanor, Townes, Louisa, and Peter Caines and Samuel Read Smartt, IV. He is also survived by his brother, Reverend Marion M. Pierson (Eugenia) of Lithia Springs, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Athens First United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 24th at 11:00AM followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be the same day at 4:00PM at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.
