

Margaret Carol Fredenburg Haynsworth, age 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 29, 2018 in Athens GA. She was born on December 24, 1928 in Fargo North Dakota to the late David Ralph and Mary Elizabeth Fredenburg. She had two sisters, Mary Evelyn Fredenburg, Mildred Fredenburg Wilson and one brother, the late Dave Marshall Fredenburg.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harry Jarvis Haynsworth, her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bell and husband Sidney, and two granddaughters, Kathrine Elizabeth and Kristin Colie Bell.
Carol grew up in Orlando, Florida. She attended Mars Hill College in North Carolina where she was in the ROTC and graduated college from Florida State University with a degree in Mathematics Education. Carol was active in the Baptist Student Union at Florida State and served as a youth counselor in the Florida Baptist G.A. summer camp program. After graduating college, Carol taught high school math and chemistry in Florida and coached girls basketball, her teams winning two conference championships.
Carol and Harry moved to Athens, Georgia in 1964 where she worked at the main library of the University of Georgia. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Athens where she continued serving as a G.A. leader, choir member and church library volunteer for many years. Carol was an avid sports fan and animal lover. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, mentor and friend.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church Athens on Saturday, June 2 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church Athens.
