
Born Aug. 4, 1932, he was the son of the late Thomas and Ellie (Patterson) Hunt of Banks County.
Hunt graduated from Hartwell High School in 1949. After working for two years for the Third Army Headquarters at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, he graduated from Piedmont College in Demorest in 1955 with a B.A. degree in music. After graduation, he moved to White Plains, New York, to study piano with composer Percy Grainger for two years.
During his 50-year career as a music teacher, Hunt taught in Thomaston, Georgia, before moving to California, where he taught music in public schools in San Francisco from 1956-1989. While there, he studied music at Claremont Graduate School, Stanford University, San Francisco State, and the University of California. He was a member of the University of Michigan music faculty and taught piano during 15 summers at the Interlochen Arts Center in Michigan.
In 1989, Hunt moved to Medford, Oregon, and operated a piano studio. He served as president of the Rogue Valley Chapter of Oregon Music Teachers Association, and served on the state OMTA executive board for 13 years, four years as State Ensemble Chair. In 2005, he retired and moved to Athens. In 2009, Piedmont College presented Hunt with its Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of his long career in music education.
Hunt is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
