

He was born in Kingsport, TN on June 6, 1937 and was the son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Hoil Minor.
Marlin joined the U.S. Army in 1955 at the age of 19 where he served for 20 years before retiring in 1975. He served in the Korean Conflict, did two tours in Vietnam and two tours in Germany. During that time, he received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, an Expert Infantryman Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Star and one Bronze Star, Air Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze, Oak Leaf Cluster and many other accommodations. He coached UGA Army ROTC Rifle Team from 1969 to 1971. He served on the prestigious military guard at Arlington National Cemetery watching over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Minor of the home; sister Judy Mahan of Rogersville, TN; son, Steve Minor; daughter, Cindy Bledsoe of Tennessee; eight grandchildren; four step-children, Cindy Green, Danny Lackey, Pam Butts of Athens, Debra Millwood of Atlanta; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of wonderful friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rev. Kenneth J. Minor and Hoil Minor Jr.; and a sister, Doris M. Wilder.
Marlin loved his Sunday School class and wonderful teacher, Preston.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 5 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
