
A native of Athens, Mrs. Daniel was the daughter of the late Jewell W. Byrd and Lucy Thornton Byrd and was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Edgar C. Daniel Jr, two brothers, William “Billy” Byrd and J.W. (Weyman) Byrd, and two sisters, Jimmie Byrd Moore and Hallie Byrd. Mrs. Daniel attended College Avenue Elementary School in Athens and then volunteered as PTA President and room mother for many years when her children attended the same school. She graduated from high school at what was then called the Athens Demonstration School; a subsidiary of the University of Georgia College of Education during the 1940’s. She worked in Athens at Roger’s Hosiery Co., Woolworths, and J.C. Penny prior to AT&T from which she retired in 1989. During the last year of her life, she resided at Lanier Gardens Retirement Home where she had many dear friends. Mrs. Daniel was an active member of Central Baptist Church for 69 years. She taught the 3-4 year old Sunday school class there for over 30 years and then taught an adult class during her later years.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Foster and Connie Daniel of Gray, GA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Phil Kinney of Bishop, GA and Lynn and Mike Curtis of Cumming, GA; two sisters, Betty Byrd Coley and Carolyn Byrd Hyatt (Jim) both of Athens; 4 brothers, Tommy Byrd (Virginia) of Mt. Vernon, GA, Bobby Byrd (Linda), Charles Byrd (Regina), and James Byrd; one beloved sister-in-law, Helen Byrd all of Athens; 13 grandchildren, Clark Daniel (Jennifer) of Petal, MS, Clay Daniel (Rhonda) of Gray, GA, Susan Daniel of Gray, GA, Sheri Daniel Liechty (Nathan) of Bluffton, IN, Stephen Daniel of Macon, GA, Charity Daniel of Macon, GA, Jaime Kinney Johnson (Keith) of Buckhead, GA, Johnette Kinney Bennett (Douglas) of Jefferson, GA, Laura Kinney Jenkins (Keith) of Jefferson, GA, Lindsey Kinney Berry (Devin) of Bishop, GA, Brant Curtis of Woodstock, GA, Chad Curtis (Tammy) of Milton, GA, Nathan Curtis (Lisa) of Roswell, GA; 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2PM Saturday, January 17th in the chapel at Bernstein Funeral Home with Reverends Clark Daniel (grandson), Terry Smith, and Rick Veal officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Her six grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
